The U.S. launched a campaign this week on Kickstarter — a crowdfunding website on which people around the world can donate to fund proposed projects — to help provide aid to Syrian refugees. All proceeds will go to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the leading international body on refugees.
It is staggering that a country that spends around $600 billion on its military would think it appropriate to launch a Kickstarter campaign to ask ordinary citizens to raise aid for the millions of Syrians who have been displaced as a direct result of US decisions in the region.
Having spent over $3 billion to bomb Syria in a year, you would think they could spend some of the federal budget to help those innocent civilians who have been left with nothing as a result, but as this abhorrent fund raising campaign shows, the US Government has its priorities all wrong.

Americans have been arguing bitterly over religion since before the founding of the independent nation. The Colonists came by it honestly. They arrived from Europe with a legacy of several hundred years of wars with the infidels, the Papists and fellow Christian reformers.
A few early Colonists died for their religious beliefs, or for lack of them. Others were jailed or exiled.
Then Vice President Thomas Jefferson, a decade after the nation’s founding, became the first presidential candidate – but not the last – to be falsely characterized as a Muslim.
John Quincy Adams, advocating for the re-election of his father, “exposed” Jefferson as “a Turk,” that day’s euphemism for followers of Mohammad, which in 18th century American eyes made him more unfit than a Jew, or even a Roman Catholic, to head this Protestant nation.
Why can’t a Muslim be the President of the US?
This question has plagued the American people, as much as it did the founding fathers as it does now. 200 years ago presidential contenders accused their opponents of being ‘Turks’, for at that time Muslim and Turk were synonymous. More recently President Obama was accused of being a Muslim.
Today, there are more than 2,100 American mosques but they have a challenge: There aren’t enough imams, or spiritual leaders, to go around.
The above NPR article, which also has an accompanying podcast, looks into the rise of Islam in the US, and the dire need for more Imams who are classically trained but who possess good English skills and a thorough understanding of American culture.
With four out of five Imams, in the US, currently from abroad and primarily from the Middle East will they be able to achieve this goal?
A course for US military officers has been teaching that America’s enemy is Islam in general and suggesting that the country might ultimately have to obliterate the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina without regard for civilian deaths, following second world war precedents of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima.
The Pentagon suspended the course in late April when a student objected to the material. The FBI also changed some agent training last year after discovering that it, too, was critical of Islam.
“They hate everything you stand for and will never coexist with you, unless you submit,” the instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Dooley, said in a presentation last July for the course at Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. The college, for professional military members, teaches mid-level officers and government civilians on subjects related to planning and executing war. Continue reading →
Lowe’s, the national hardware chain, has pulled commercials from future episodes of “All-American Muslim,” a TLC reality-TV show, after protests by Christian groups.
The Florida Family Association, a Tampa Bay group, has led a campaign urging companies to pull ads on “All-American Muslim.”
“‘All-American Muslim’ is propaganda clearly designed to counter legitimate and present-day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and Sharia law,” the Florida group asserts in a letter it asks members to send to TLC advertisers.
The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to the liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish,” the FFA’s letter continues. Continue reading →
