The Holy Quran says says: “O you who believe, take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends of each other.” (5:51)

Our detractors say this shows that the Holy Quran commands us to discriminate against them. Even if we look at recent events they show the truth of this verse. The US army had admitted that parts of its manual are insulting to Muslims and Islam and such text will be removed. Are there any anti-Jewish passages in the US army manual? A survey in France has shown that Muslims are the most discriminated against and disadvantaged section of society. This is how Islam and Muslims are treated in two countries which pride themselves on being secular and separating religion and the state. We wonder what the state of Muslims sections is in those European countries which are officially Christian or Israel where Judaism is the state religion.

Heroic Tale of Holocaust, With a Twist

The stories of the Holocaust have been documented, distorted, clarified and filtered through memory. Yet new stories keep coming, occasionally altering the grand, incomplete mosaic of Holocaust history.

One of them, dramatized in a French film released here last week, focuses on an unlikely savior of Jews during the Nazi occupation of France: the rector of a Paris mosque.

Muslims, it seems, rescued Jews from the Nazis.

“Les Hommes Libres” (“Free Men”) is a tale of courage not found in French textbooks. According to the story, Si Kaddour Benghabrit, the founder and rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, provided refuge and certificates of Muslim identity to a small number of Jews to allow them to evade arrest and deportation.

It was simpler than it sounds. In the early 1940s France was home to a large population of North Africans, including thousands of Sephardic Jews. The Jews spoke Arabic and shared many of the same traditions and everyday habits as the Arabs. Neither Muslims nor Jews ate pork. Both Muslim and Jewish men were circumcised. Muslim and Jewish names were often similar.

The mosque, a tiled, walled fortress the size of a city block on the Left Bank, served as a place to pray, certainly, but also as an oasis of calm where visitors were fed and clothed and could bathe, and where they could talk freely and rest in the garden.

It was possible for a Jew to pass.

Forgotten History: The Muslims who saved the Jews

Stories of Albanian Muslims who saved the lives of Jews during the Holocaust are the focus of a campaign for better interfaith relations.

Run by the Exploring Islam Foundation, Missing Pages was launched at the House of Lords in the week of Holocaust Memorial Day. The campaign features an exhibition of photography by Norman Gershman featuring Muslims who protected Jews.

At the launch, survivor Scarlett Epstein told how Albanian Muslims had saved her from the Nazis. “I owe Albania my life,” she said. “I saw unspeakable atrocities living in Vienna and we fled to Yugoslavia on a tourist visa. My parents were suicidal because as the visa ran out they wanted to send us back to Vienna. No country would take us, not the US, not the UK, nowhere. Finally we tried the Albanian consulate. I expected them to throw us out but they gave us the visas straight away.”

Mr Gershman, who spent six years on the photographic project, said: “We are telling a story which has never been told. They risked their lives and they have been forgotten. Many of these people have never been recognised by Yad Vashem.”

The exhibition has been displayed in the House of Commons and is at the London Jewish Cultural Centre until February 1.

Mr Gershman will also speak on a Missing Pages tour of university campuses, hosted jointly by Islamic and Jewish societies.

Muslims hate Jews? A Panorama Special

The Holy Quran tells us that to unquestioningly believe everything that the so called scholars and leaders, religious and others, is to equate them with the Divine Being.

Jews and Christians denied that they believe their religious leaders to be Divine. On this, The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) challenged these people and asked whether or not they unquestioningly accept whatever their religious leaders command. This he said was treating them like God.

In the event of Britain going to war with an Islamic country who will the Muslims fight for?

Would they fight for Britain or the Islamic country under attack? It is said that Muslims can only be regarded as truly British if they are prepared to kill their brothers in the country under attack.

People in the UK claim that all other minorities would fight for Britain and not side with their co-religious.

Here the example of a Jew is given who says that this question was discussed in his religious education classes and that they always unanimously decided that they would fight for Israel against Britain.

Jews and Christians hate Muslims

A verse of the Holy Quran which warns Muslims about making friends with Jews and Christians was read out in a TV programme called the Big Question, in an attempt we assume to stoke up anti Islamic feelings.

The Holy Quran warns Muslims about making friends with Christians and Jews rather than Muslims.

This is not to be taken at an individual level but at national and political level. We have seen how Muslims were used by the Christians in the two World Wars and then, immediately after the Wars, Christian countries went on to make decisions which hurt the Muslims. Throughout history Jews have lived in peace in Islamic countries. They even migrated to these countries when persecuted in Christian countries. Allah wants us to depend on ourselves and not on other communities. This is the real spirit of these verses.
