7% of people will be alone this Christmas day-and HALF A MILLION of the elderly will be on their own
A survey carried out by the BBC showed that 10% of those aged over 65 in the UK expect to spend Christmas mostly on their own.
The campaign to end loneliness outlined some risk factors, which can lead to being alone over Christmas- and throughout the year.
- Poor health
- Lack of public transport
- Loss of mobility
- Lower income
- Fear of crime
The elderly are likely to feel they don’t want to be seen as a burden- and that is the leading reason for many who will spend Christmas day all by themselves.
